RAKEZ company formation, a lower-cost UAE base within reach of Dubai.
Ras Al Khaimah's economic zone is one of the most cost-effective ways for UK directors to establish a genuine UAE presence, with stronger trading and industrial infrastructure than most Dubai zones, and it's still only around an hour from central Dubai.

Why RAKEZ suits cost-conscious UK founders
Genuinely lower overhead
RAKEZ is consistently one of the more affordable UAE free zones, which matters when your first-year budget also has to cover visa, banking and a clean UK exit.
Built for physical business
From flexi-desks through to full warehouse and industrial units, RAKEZ has infrastructure options most office-only free zones simply don't offer.
Close enough to Dubai when needed
A roughly hour's drive keeps you in easy reach of Dubai's banks, courts and client meetings without paying a Dubai-zone premium for your registration.
Who a RAKEZ setup suits
Import/export traders
If your business moves physical goods, RAKEZ's trading licences and storage infrastructure are typically a more natural fit than an office-only Dubai zone.
Light manufacturers
RAKEZ's industrial units suit small-scale production and assembly businesses that need genuine floor space rather than a desk.
Budget-conscious first-time setups
For UK directors wanting to keep first-year cost as low as possible while still holding a genuine, government-registered UAE entity, RAKEZ is one of the strongest options available.
Service businesses without a prestige-address need
If your clients don't care whether your registered address says Dubai or Ras Al Khaimah, RAKEZ delivers the same core benefits (0% qualifying income, 100% ownership) for a lower running cost.
Who RAKEZ probably doesn't suit
RAKEZ probably isn't the right choice if a central Dubai address matters to how your business is perceived by clients or investors, or if you need to be in Dubai in person on short notice regularly, since Ras Al Khaimah is a genuine drive away rather than a short taxi ride. For businesses where the postcode carries no commercial weight, that trade-off is easily worth the lower cost; for those where it does, a Dubai-based zone is the better fit.
What a RAKEZ setup actually costs
Across our UAE setups generally, licences start around £3,000–£3,500 a year, with a realistic first-year total, including visa, banking and a proper UK exit, usually £8,000–£15,000. RAKEZ typically sits toward the lower end of that range for standard trading and service licences; costs move up if your business needs warehouse or industrial space rather than a flexi-desk.
Because RAKEZ offers such a wide range of facility types, getting an accurate quote depends heavily on confirming your actual space requirement before you apply, rather than defaulting to whichever package a formation agent lists first.

What each stage of a RAKEZ setup actually involves
Free consultation & fit check
1–3 business daysWe confirm whether RAKEZ, or a Dubai-based alternative, genuinely fits your business, budget and client base before recommending it.
Common snag: Choosing RAKEZ on cost alone without weighing whether a Dubai address matters to your specific clients is the most common decision UK directors later reconsider; we'd rather raise this upfront.
Facility & licence selection
3–10 business days, depending on facility typeWe match you to the right licence and facility type, from a flexi-desk through to a full warehouse or industrial unit.
Common snag: Warehouse and industrial availability can take longer to confirm than a standard desk package; if your timeline is tight, we flag this early rather than let it become a late surprise.
Application submission & licence issuance
Usually 1–2 weeks from a complete applicationWe prepare and submit the application and coordinate RAKEZ's approvals on your behalf.
Common snag: Because RAKEZ is a separate emirate from Dubai, some UK directors assume the process runs slower than a Dubai zone. In practice the licence stage itself is comparable; the difference is mainly the travel time for any in-person requirement.
Visa, Emirates ID & banking
Visa/Emirates ID 2–3 weeks · banking 2–4 weeks, run in parallelOnce the licence is issued, your residency visa and Emirates ID processing run alongside your UAE corporate bank account application.
Common snag: Biometrics and medical test appointments still require an in-person UAE trip; directors who don't budget the roughly 45–60 minute journey from Dubai into their schedule sometimes find it tighter than expected.
Documents & requirements checklist
What a UK director actually needs to have ready for a RAKEZ application, so nothing holds up your file once we submit it.
To submit the licence application
- Passport copy for every shareholder and the appointed manager, at least six months' validity remaining.
- Passport-style photograph, white background, for each shareholder and manager.
- Proof of current UK residential address, a utility bill or bank statement, usually no older than three months.
- A business plan or activity description, matched to your chosen RAKEZ activity and facility type.
- Two to three preferred trade name options.
- Draft shareholding structure, confirmed before filing.
To finish licensing, banking & visas
- Facility application and lease (flexi-desk, office, warehouse or industrial unit) matched to your licence category.
- No Objection Certificate (NOC), only relevant if you already hold a UAE residency visa sponsored by a different employer.
- UK company documents (Certificate of Incorporation, Memorandum & Articles), if the RAKEZ entity is a subsidiary of your existing UK limited company.
- A more detailed business plan for the corporate bank account application, most UAE banks want more than the licence application required.
- Medical test and biometrics appointment, completed in person during one short UAE trip, for each visa applicant.
- Emirates ID application documents, processed alongside the residency visa once approved.
This covers what most RAKEZ applications need; your chosen facility type and your specific activity can add or remove items, which we confirm before you gather anything.
